I love this time of year, not just because of all the half price chocolate in the supermarkets (thanks trick or treaters!) but because everyone knows, it’s the start of party season…
One good thing about Halloween when pregnant, is that no one really expects you to get into fancy dress, instead you can get away with wearing a black dress and adding drama with make-up and if totally necessary – a pointy hat… in which case I recommend going to Escapade, this store was just down the road from my office in Primrose Hill and it is honestly the most superb fancy dress shop I have ever seen! You can order online here www.escapade.co.uk.
Other events in the diary are bound to include Christmas drinks, Christmas works do’s, Christmas day and NYE and all that is in between! So many do’s – SO many outfits!
If like me, you are reaching the end of your pregnancy, it’s probably not really worth going out and getting all new outfits like you usually would! Instead, get the staple little black dress and if you are hitting the mid season sales, go for accessories that you can use after having the baby.
I have found a few beautiful maternity dresses, one of which I am awaiting delivery on! This fabulous Isabella Oliver dress is half price, I couldn’t resist – and honestly, the diary is looking pretty full so I will get lots of wear out of it!
This silk dress from Crave is gorgeous if you have a slightly higher budget, the tie back and the v neck will be most flattering, and from my experience with this brand – you can pretty much guarantee the quality and fit will be lovely.
The Chloe from Tiffany Rose is a favourite amongst celebs such as Claire Richards and Myleen Klass, if you have any really special occasions lined up – then this is the dress to get!
With the LBD sorted, it’s time to accessorise. Winter parties mean only one thing when it comes to accessorising… sparkles. And lots of them.
Ideally we would all own the Anya Hindmarch Valories in every single colour, but at £350 a pop, it’s unlikely to happen… Instead, I have found this little beauty at only £35 in Accessorize which will do nicely for now! With such a statement bag, stick with black shoes – Suede or patent courts are normally a winner and seem to stay looking new for longer as opposed to leather which easily get scuffed and faded. Dune are normally a fail safe for these classics. TIP – Pointy shoes will always make your legs look thinner and show as much toe cleavage as possible to elongate the legs, rule applies when wearing skinny jeans also!
As much as I love big statement necklaces, finding the right neckline to compliment them is always a challenge… I would suggest getting some statement earrings instead, be as bold as you like and try adding a splash of colour for extra drama. I love these regal style earrings from Accessorize.
