Festival Fashion Over 30

“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory”

– Coco Chanel

A mistake we have all made and not just at festivals, is over accessorising. It instantly gives you the “try hard” look that we all aim so desperately not to have! I once made the festival mistake of covering myself in feathers and bangles, desperate to look like one of those Chelsea Sloanes with effortless style and glossy hair. I look back at my try-hard photos and cringe. It’s a faux par I shan’t be repeating.

I’m off to the Wireless Festival on Friday to see JT, and whilst I would love to wear acid denim hot pants and a crop top like all the other kids, I am more than aware this is not a look for a 30yr old mother of 2. In fact, reading Grazia last week I was laughing at the very thought of me dressing like Florence Welch as they suggested, I mean can you even imagine?

So, with this in mind – I have put some thought in to festival outfits that suit the slightly older age group. Here are some of my finds…

Starting from the top and working down, a bright coloured trilby will instantly give you a festival feel and whilst it’s not got the TB label, at only £12 from Accessorize it’s a steal and you won’t mind losing it. Which you probably will.

You just can’t go wrong with the classic Ray Ban Wayfarers and unlike the aviators which I can’t wear because they make my nose look big, these suit EVERYBODY.

When it comes to beauty, I plan on keeping my make up pretty simple – it will only be sliding down my face by 6pm so no point investing too much time on this – the hair however, is something that needs work. Bumble and Bumble have a great product called Surf Spray that when spritzed on to damp hair will give you instant tousled locks perfect for a summers day look.

This little jumpsuit is from Mango and is currently in the sale for just £24.99, worn with a tan plaited belt to accentuate your waist it’s the most flattering jumpsuit I’ve come across and will keep you cool in the heat wave.  Although… Festival toilets may prove a challenge. You’ve got your Shewee packed right?

For the shoes, we all know Hunters are the “done” thing at festivals and don’t get me wrong, they look great, but… its going to be BOILING! And I just can’t be doing with sweaty feet so I shall be wearing my comfy KG studded sandals.

And finally the bag… Yes you can go for tassels… like everyone else. But check out this fabulous leather studded messenger bag from Zara. Worn across the body it won’t restrict your dance moves and is in the sale for less than £20! It is the perfect accessory for any summers dress once festival season is behind you.

  2. Loving all these accessories! So cute! But what about the hair? I think beautiful bohemian plaits would go a very long (and easy) way to achieve festival fashion without looking like you tried too hard. I find, for me at least, that no matter what I wear, my hair sets the tone. If you’re in london, try these guys http://www.braidbarlondon.co.uk (I’m obsessed)
