The sun may still be shining and yes, it may still be reaching highs of almost 30 degrees but it’s September, and since we were just 5 years old this month has always meant just one thing… Mum was going to buy you a whole new wardrobe. Showing off my new shoes, bag and coat was the only thing that got me excited about going back to school (that and stationary shopping) and whilst this may be a tradition that officially ends when you are no longer a student, hitting September seems as good an excuse as any to relive that childhood excitement and spoil yourself with a new Autumn wardrobe.
When you become a new mum, you can forget spending your summers with cocktails in the sun, wearing white floaty dresses and relaxing in the garden with a magazine. Those days are long gone. Instead, my summers are filled with endless visits to parks, farms, RHS gardens and yes, more parks – and whilst I’ll never tire of the fabulous weather we’ve been having, I am more than ready to smarten up for Autumn and say good bye to my flip flops. Below are some high street finds that have made it to my wardrobe wish list for Autumn ’13. (click on any image for prices).
The Autumn Coat
I’ve recently become a huge fan of Boden, they have totally revamped their brand image from frumpy to fabulous whilst keeping their looks practical and full of colour. I love this little Mia Coat in camel, it instantly smartens a casual jeans and jersey combo.
A Splash of Colour
Again, Boden have nailed the breton classics this year with their vibrant stripes and scooped necklines, this pink will beautifully compliment structured blacks or casual tans.
Leather is big on the AW13 high street and I LOVE this mini skirt from Zara. Teamed with a casual bright knit top for day and a slinky shirt for night.
On a recent mother and baby photo shoot (separate post to follow), the stylist put me in a pair of Massimo Dutti jeans and I was really impressed! I will always stay loyal to my Gap Jean Leggings for comfort but these were a brilliant fit, didn’t lose their shape and have a surprisingly reasonable price tag!
It’s not quite time for the knee high boots and shoes just aren’t that practical – the compromise? The casual ankle boots. These Steve Madden for Dune studded boots are perfect for a busy lifestyle whilst still maintaining a stylish finish to a casual outfit.
