30 Days to Healthy Living

It was my love for luxury skincare and professional make up that drew me in to the Arbonne business, but the time has come to venture in to their ever expanding nutrition range.

Now this is kind of a big deal – I basically survive on a diet of sugar! Constantly running around after my 3 daughters, I make very little time to take care of myself, most mornings I skip breakfast but on a good day I’ll have a crumpet, lunch is usually a packet of maryland cookies which I binge on throughout the day and dinner is whatever scraps are left on the kids plates. When I looked at my diet over the course of the week I was ashamed at how bad I have let it get. I haven’t eaten fruit since I was a baby and veg is something I look forward to when we go out for a Sunday lunch! As a result I am the thinnest I have ever been, have zero energy and it takes me forever to shake off a common cold. It is time I took better care of myself (and that time is after Christmas. Obvs). So, I have decided to take the plunge and get on board with the rest of the world and get healthy in January! I am going to start the 30 Days to Healthy Living program by Arbonne.

So, in a nut shell, I want to tell you about this plan, what it is, how it works, and why we should all be doing it!

What is it?

A 30 day program containing all you need to kick start your body into a healthier version. It is a well thought our plan containing our ultimate daily intake of nutrients. So many of us struggle to get the nutrients we need from food alone, this maybe due to a busy lifestyle or simply having no idea what nutrients we actually need! This is a programme that frankly should be called, “The Dummies Guide to Healthy Living”.

Why do it?

Why not? Our bodies deserve it! I literally can not wait to get started, my poor little body isn’t going to know what to do it with itself after all these years of neglect! I know a lot of people will do this for weight loss, but my main reason is to feel well and have more energy so that I can enjoy my days with my children.

I know there will be a lot of people out there that don’t believe in these plans, a lot will say that a good balanced diet is all you need, and to an extent this is true – but even the Food Standards Agency recommends adding dietary supplements for optimal health as to get everything we need in a day from food alone, would require a serious amount of calories!

Why Arbonne?

Simply:

Arbonne leave out the bad stuff, and the shakes taste amazing 🙂

Officially:

• Vegan certified, no animal ingredients – plant based proteins are far easier for our bodies to process than meats. It also means that we are dairy free which is essential for optimal health, we should all try to avoid lactose (milk sugar).
• Gluten free
• No artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners – you wont find any of the nasties in this stuff!
• No trans fat
• No high fructose corn syrup or fructose
• High bioavailability – which basically means the nutrients in these products will be absorbed very efficiently, vitamins that are not bioavailable quite literally go straight through you!
• Low glycemic index (with the Protein Shake powders) which means it will have minimal impact on your sugar levels.

What Benefits can we expect?

Now everyone is different and what one person experiences will be different to another. My friend Kate did this a few months ago and I literally watched her body transform – she lost 6kg in 30 days, but as I am not doing this to lose weight, what was most appealing to me is the other benefits this program can give you. She noticed healthier hair and nails, better skin, slept better and had considerably more energy throughout the day. She also has 2 children and a hectic lifestyle and said that what she loved most is how easy this is to do!

15085586_325921297793011_4480093971741973825_n.jpg

Kate knows her stuff when it comes to nutrition and is going to be running a support group on Facebook in January to help keep us going!

So what do you get?

There is a choice of two 30 day packages to go for:

Either the Protein Shake or the Meal Replacement, other than the big bags – the rest of the package is the same. I am personally going for the Meal Replacement as this involves very little effort!

1820_UK_ASVP_30-Days_SamplerPro_vert.jpg

  • Arbonne Essentials Protein Shake Powder OR Meal Replacement shakes (1 in chocolate and 1 in vanilla)
  • Arbonne Essentials Energy Fizz Sticks (1 pack in citrus and 1 in pomegranate)
  • Arbonne Essentials Daily Fibre Boost
  • Arbonne Essentials Digestion Plus
  • Arbonne Essentials Herbal Infusion Blend (2 packs)
  • Arbonne Essentials Omega-3 Plus

A typical day on the 30 days programme:

What I like about this “typical day” is that there is very little effort required from me – pretty much all of it comes in the 30 days pack! Just a lunch to think about, I have heard M&S do some ready made meals that tick all the boxes for what we can and can’t eat so being a fussy eater that seems like the easiest option!

  • Healthy breakfast and/or Meal Replacement or Protein Shake with Digestion Plus
  • Healthy lunch
  • Energy Fizz Sticks
  • Healthy dinner and/or Meal Replacement or Protein Shake with a scoop of Daily Fibre Boost
  • 30 minutes of activity
  • Herbal Infusion Blend

What happens after?

Well it’s up to you how much of the plan you carry on with, Kate kept up the meal replacement shakes for no other reason than convenience – so much easier when on the go with kids in the morning! She also took digestion plus when she remembered with her meals and genuinely fell in love with the detox tea so had one of those each night too – but what is interesting was that even though she was introducing “naughty” foods back in to her diet, she actually continued losing weight for the next month! She puts this down to having a healthier gut that was simply more efficient at digesting her food. Kate really is my inspiration come 2017 and I am very fortunate to also have her as a neighbour to pop in and keep me motivated long after January!

So how much is it?!

As a complete pack you can take advantage of a 40% discount.

Meal Replacement pack – £211.80

Protein Shakes pack – £203.40

These are preferred client prices so if you are not already a PC you can set yourself up for £17 to get a 20% discount on all other products in the Arbonne portfolio for 12 months as well as claim a free gift up to the value of £42 with this order (I recommend something from our skincare range!).

To purchase either of these kits go to my site at fayejacobs.arbonne.com

Now if this all looks a bit terrifying to you, and you wanted to ease yourself into this program, I would advise getting the following:

  • Meal Replacement Shakes
  • Fizz Sticks (Citrus my fave!)
  • Digestion Plus
  • Herbal Tea

This will save you money however you wont take advantage of the 40% discount you get on the value pack.

Our Facebook support group is going to start in January so check it out here and join up! You will hear from our nutritional experts, get round the clock support, read stories from others on the program, ask any questions you have along the way, exercise advice, recipe ideas and SO MUCH MORE! Doing this as a group is the only way I have any chance of seeing it through!

Screen Shot 2016-12-22 at 10.59.00.png

With this pack you are given a manual with all the details you could possible need about this program, so along with the Facebook group you will get all the support you need.

If you have any questions about this program then you can drop me a mail at fayejacobs@hotmail.com or leave a comment below.

See you in January! Now go have a happy and over indulgent week 😉 xx

Review: City Premier by Baby Jogger

Already a huge fan of the City Mini Double by Baby Jogger, I was delighted when they got in touch to ask me to review their latest design, the City Premier. We bought the double almost 4 years ago after having Savannah, and it has joined us on every holiday and every major outing since. It has never let us down and has seriously survived the test of time being battered in and out of planes! So did the City Premier live up to my high expectations?

Yes.

It is everything I loved about the double with the added bonus of a larger storage basket and a hand break (and of course the ease of pushing a single!!).

The large sports like wheels make it incredibly light and easy to manoeuvre and despite the large wheels, it’s incredibly compact which was the biggest appeal to me with the double.

DSC03901.jpg

It has 5 seat positions for extra comfort. With just a simple squeeze of the handle under the hood the whole seat can be dropped back to a lie flat position which is perfect for sleeping babies. It can also be front or rear facing depending on what suits your little one.

DSC03898.JPG

The Baby Jogger hoods are simply the best! They offer such good coverage plus a UV protection of 50. I was impressed with the hidden magnets to secure the covers on the peek a boo windows, it’s all these little details that makes it feel like a really well thought out design and quality product.

DSC03910.JPG

The big wheels make for a super smooth ride for your baby and the front wheels can be locked for complete control on rougher terrains.

DSC03902.JPG

I much prefer a break that can be controlled with my hands as opposed to my foot, I find releasing breaks with my feet really ruins the top of my shoes!

DSC03912.JPG

You can extend and compress the handle bar easily with a large button on the inside of the bar.

DSC03913.JPG

The seat can be released from the frame easily with the little grey buttons either side of the seat, this is how you can change the seat from forward to rear facing.

DSC03915.JPG

I am SERIOUSLY impressed with the glider board that attaches to the back of the buggy for Savannah to ride on. I had previously used a generic board for this and found I was constantly smacking my shins on it with every pace I made! It was also very rickety and felt quite unstable when in use and was generally such a palaver to stow away I very rarely used it. In comparison, this board is absolutely brilliant. It feels so secure and to stow away, it literally clips up on to the buggy and you barely notice it’s there!

DSC03924.JPG

The downside is that I do now have a very lazy 3 year old…

DSC03927.JPG

Finally, we can cross the road safely! Normally it’s a “Right everyone hold on to something or someone!” situation, this little board has made life much easier when I’m on my own with all 3 of them.

DSC03947.JPG

The basket is actually really deep, perfect to store your nappy bag and stuff the kids coats in!

DSC03959.jpg

A sharp pull on this strap is how you collapse the buggy. It does take a bit of getting used to but once you’ve mastered it, it’s very simple and hassle free.

DSC03958.JPG

You can see here how tidy the glider board is when not in use.

DSC03981.JPG

Over all, I am very impressed with the buggy and absolutely recommend this as one to consider for your little ones! Another accessory I have but didn’t get photographed is the Premier Foot Muff which I would totally recommend in this freezing cold weather, it’s such piece of mind knowing how warm and cosy Anastasia is!

The City Premier is priced at £449.99, for more details on this buggy you can check out the Baby Jogger official site here.

Review: RE9 Advanced Anti Ageing Range

It’s no secret, I am wholeheartedly in love with the entire Arbonne range of products. As a brand, Arbonne tick every one of my consumer boxes. The range is cruelty free, vegan friendly and is free of toxic nasties found in almost all leading premium beauty brands. Since using Arbonne, I have become very conscious of the ingredients in products I use and can say with complete certainty that I shall never go back to a skincare product that is not made with botanical ingredients.

The RE9 collection is by far the hero in the Arbonne range, the results can be seen on some people in just a matter of days. I have been using this range religiously morning and night for 4 weeks now and my skin is the best it’s been for years. The first few days of trying the products, I had a bit of a breakout in spots, I had faith that this was simply down to such active ingredients clearing my skin of the toxins deeply imbedded. I persevered and within a week my face was clear of spots and looked healthier than ever.

Here is my new routine!

I start off with the RE9 Smoothing Facial Cleanser, £33 and use this as a face wash morning and night. This lather’s beautifully and removes all traces of make up and impurities.

Smoothing Facial Cleanser UK_Fullsize Product Image-1.jpeg

Next up is a quick mist with the RE9 Regenerating Toner, £29,  rich in antioxidants and works to balance your PH levels.

Regenerating Toner UK_Fullsize Product Image.jpeg

On to the RE9 Intensive Renewal Serum, £48 – probably the most active of all the steps – this absorbs deep into the skin and supports your natural collagen and has been proven to visibly firm and lift skin.

Intensive Renewal Serum UK_Fullsize Product Image.jpeg

A quick dab of the RE9 Corrective Eye Creme, £46, under and above my eyes for fine lines and dark circles. Some friends I have introduced these products to felt this working as soon as they applied it!

Corrective Eye Crème UK_Fullsize Product Image.jpeg

And finally the RE9 Restorative Day Creme, £42, with SPF 20. This leaves my skin feeling moisturised and radiant. Honestly, I have never known a moisturiser to instantly give such a brilliant finish to my complexion.

Restorative Day Creme SFP 20 UK_Fullsize Product Image.jpeg

Don’t take just my word for it, the RE9 range came number 1 in an independent clinical trial against the leading department store brand for getting better results in achieving a younger looking complexion across 4 weeks. Check this out here along with some before and after pics!

*****Super Special Offer!*****

Individually these products seem quite expensive, but if you wanted the full range with night cream there is currently a special offer price of £213 which also includes the Genius Intelligence Nightly Resurfacing pads (normal price £87 and is AMAZING on acne scars and age spots!) PLUS a free gift of your choice! If you went for this offer you would automatically become a Preffered Client and get 20% off future orders (normal price is £17 to get this discount for a year).

2014_AU_ASVP_Anti-Aging_Face.jpg

To take advantage of this offer drop me an email and I’ll set you up to make sure you get the freebies! fayejacobs@hotmail.com

If you wanted to ease into this range, then the prices start from just £29. If you were dissatisfied with the results – Arbonne offer a 45 day money back guarantee which is an incredibly bold move by a beauty brand – they are pretty confident in their products!

Just do me a favour, check the ingredients in the products you are using. If at any point they mention mineral oils or parabens (these are usually listed as methylparaben, propylparaben and butylparaben) then run for the hills. Parabens are toxic preservatives offering a longer shelf life for your products – traces of parabens have been found in breast tumours. And mineral oil is basically a by-product of petrol and is nothing more than a cost effective bulking agent!

If you have any questions at all about this range or might be interested in trying a sample before buying, then feel free to get in touch at fayejacobs@hotmail.com

My Guide To Weaning And The Essentials You Need

I’ve recently started to wean Anastasia onto solid foods. At 6 months, she was becoming less satisfied on breast milk alone and when she cut her first tooth – I decided it was time to hang up the nursing bras. Despite going through this process twice before with Scarlett and Savannah it has been an entirely new experience. Every baby is different and you never quite know how easy weaning is going to be, so my tip before you embark on this journey is to be prepared with all the modern day essentials to make it as stress free as possible! Here are the items I have used and recommend (click on the links for further information).

Highchair

Making sure your baby is comfortable during meal times is essential. She will need to be fairly upright so that she can easily swallow pureed foods. I am using the stylish Stokke Tripp Trapp chair. It offers great support for this stage with a detachable baby set, but has also been designed to transform into a chair for older children that is the perfect height for a regular dining table. I have this in the hazy grey with the candy stripe cushion but it is available in 12 different colours to work with your kitchen.

IMG_3083

Bibs

This is a great design by BabyBjörn that has an adjustable neck band to last her until early toddler stage and is nice and soft to avoid any discomfort or get in the way. It will catch all food waste and can be easily rinsed ready for the next meal time.

IMG_3084

Spoons and Bowls

You can’t have enough spoons and bowls! The collection by Babymoov are dishwasher, freezer and microwave safe and all come with lids so you can take them out and about. These are also a great size for snacks when they get a little bit older. Go for small, shallow spoons for the early stage – the best I have come across are by Avent.

IMG_2517

IMG_2546

Blender

The NutriBaby by Babymoov is absolutely genius and it’s no surprise that it has won so many awards. It is so compact and takes up very little space on your kitchen counter and allows you to make huge batches of pureed food to freeze for your baby. Using a simple electronic programme on the front of the machine, you can steam the food using the double trays and then transfer the soft food to the blender to puree. Add water from the catching tray (ready made vegetable stock!) to make it the correct consistency and hey presto! Baby food done! This product can also warm bottles, heat through food and even defrost your frozen food. It is absolutely brilliant and so much easier than the hand blender process I’ve used in the past, it means making batches of food uses far less cooking utensils and creates far less mess.

IMG_2513

IMG_2514

Emergency Reserves

Whilst I am all for home made food, there is nothing wrong with having some ready made meals stored in the fridge and when this brand came to my attention I immediately stocked up! Kiddie Cubes would have made my life so much easier in the past and Anastasia seems to really enjoy the flavours. This frozen food is as fresh as if you had made it yourself using only organic ingredients and stored in ice cube portions so you can take out just what you need on the day. I would also recommend starting off on these to get an idea of what your baby likes, there is nothing more frustrating than making an enormous home made batch to discover your baby gags at the taste!KC-packshots-015-eat-your-greens

Review: Liberty’s Exclusive Collaboration with Mamas & Papas

Mamas & Papas have teamed up with Liberty London to create a stunning collection of strollers with matching accessories. These buggies are so stylish even the glossy fashion mags such as Grazia are raving about them! I was offered the opportunity to review the Urbo² Travel System which has had a serious makeover for the new collection with luxury leather handles, printed chest pads and the distinctive and iconic Liberty London peacock feather print. Where better to give it the first test drive than Hampton Court Palace on a recent family day out, check out pics and my feedback below…

Anastasia is almost 7 months old so we went straight into the stroller seat but for a new born you can get a truly beautiful special edition chrome bassinet in matching print.

IMG_2844

The stroller has adjustable handle bars to suit any height and the groove on the handle is perfect to keep my essential buggy clip to hang my nappy bag.

IMG_2658

You really can’t knock the look of this premium buggy, the shiny chrome, tanned leather handles and quilted seat really are the ultimate in luxury baby gear. IMG_2812

IMG_2784

The seat has several positions so that even a tiny baby can lie flat when sleeping and older babies can be upright for sight seeing!

IMG_2785

The edge of the seat can be lifted for extra comfort to support Anastasia’s legs  until her little feet can reach the chrome foot rest beneath, and in this section of the seat is a hidden zip to keep the mosquito net – they have literally thought of everything! (Excuse the extremely windswept hair!)

IMG_2822

The basket is just big enough for all of your essentials and is shallow enough to reach everything easily.  As with most of the Mamas & Papas strollers, the hoods are really deep so even laying almost flat, Anastasia has plenty of shelter from wind and sun. IMG_2678

With other small children in tow, it is essential for me to have a buggy that is easy to push and navigate single handed and as you can see, even on a stoney terrain it is no problem at all. IMG_2762

Every detail screams luxury, even the product name is on a leather label!

IMG_2775

Whilst this is marketed as a city stroller, the option for locking the front wheels makes pushing off road just as easy.

IMG_2816The quilted seat is branded with the liberty logo and offers serious comfort for tiny people.IMG_2814

The folding mechanism is so easy, it quite literally collapses without any fuss making it very easy to lift into the boot of the car and the small city wheels mean this buggy will comfortably fit into very small spaces.

IMG_2904

Overall I am massively impressed with the Urbo² Travel System, I wish I could have had more use out of the bassinet as this really is the ultimate in new born luxury. And whilst I have previously avoided such bold prints, the Liberty design is so iconic that there is no risk of it going out of style. I absolutely love this buggy and feel very proud pushing Anastasia around in it 🙂

There’s also children’s fashion and homewares in vintage Liberty prints available at Mamas & Papas, some of which will be making it in to next month’s Christmas gift guide, for now – you can check out the full collection here.

Review: Britax Revolution Pro Stroller

Since Anastasia was a couple of months old, I have tried to do at least one session of exercise a week whilst the girls are at school and nursery. Even though my body is constantly active – walking, carrying, chasing… until I actually get my lycra on I don’t feel like I have had a work out. I started with aqua aerobics, but 2 weeks later I decided this wasn’t for me – the pool was too cold. I toyed with the idea of going to the gym but soon laughed this one off… Now I power walk / lightly jog whilst enjoying a gossip with my friend around Virginia Waters once a week and I absolutely love it! Up until recently I just used my regular day buggy to jog the 4.2 miles around the lake and didn’t really think anything of it, but now I have been introduced to BOB – my sports buggy, and I don’t think there is any going back.

The Revolution Pro by Britax was sent to me a few weeks ago in return for an honest review. Well here it is…

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.43.02

The Revolution Pro is a state of the art 3 wheel buggy suitable for running and skating. You can see from the pics, it is a pretty serious piece of kit!
Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.43.22

It offers comfort for Anastasia on any terrain with it’s adjustable suspension and high impact wheels.

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.43.15

The wheels look like they belong on a bike! They make it so easy to push, I can steer this no problem with one hand going around any bend, on any terrain. That little red button above the front wheel adjusts the wheels to be suitable for ‘sport’ and ‘city’ but whilst this is a great optional extra, make no mistake, this buggy is for the great outdoors – it was all kinds of dangerous steering around the clothes rails in House of Fraser due to its length!

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.43.19

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.43.11

It even has a hand brake to slow you down or stop instantly if you are travelling too fast (I haven’t actually needed to use this yet). Of course it has your regular parking brake which is unbelievably efficient on any hill. The handle bars are very adjustable, they can even move down to Scarlett’s level so she is also a big fan of this buggy!

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.43.17

Making the most of the September sun!

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.43.07

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.43.20

Just like a regular buggy, it has ample storage by way of a basket under the seat so I can still take out the days essentials for Anastasia and me.Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.43.05

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.43.13

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 18.42.58

It takes babies from 6 months until they are 3 but can be used from birth with the additional carry cot. It is priced at £455 and you can get more details on the specifications here. If I was forced to say something negative it would be that due to it’s bulk, it can be tricky to get it in and out of the car, but actually it’s the bulk and the wheels that set it apart from a regular buggy so I suppose you can’t have it all!

We love our mornings around the lake and the Revolution Pro has made it even more enjoyable, if you are looking for an easy activity to get fit with a baby in tow, then invest in this super buggy and start jogging somewhere beautiful!

Review: ESPA Mum To Be Collection

Now as any Scarlett and Me follower will know, full product reviews are a rare thing on this site unless I really, REALLY like a product. Well this luxury collection of ESPA products has well and truly passed the test and so I am dedicating an entire post to tell you all how fabulous it is and let you know how you can get your hands on a set!

I am relatively new to this brand having only sampled the Balancing Foam Cleanser at Christmas, but instantly fell in love with it. I couldn’t wait to give more products a go and was delighted that at my recent spa visit I was able to trial a number of products to recreate a luxury DIY facial which you can read all about here.  Just in time for Mother’s Day, they have put together a luxury collection aimed at Mums To Be and New Mothers and I have been extremely fortunate to receive and review these products to feedback to all of you.

The collection includes Nourishing Shower Cream, Smooth and Firm Body Butter and Nourishing Body Oil.

SONY DSC

Nourishing Shower Cream

The Nourishing Shower Cream is designed to rehydrate and moisturise dry and maturing skin, which is exactly what my poor heavily pregnant body needs right now! It’s moisturising qualities don’t hide behind a rich superficial lather, instead, it leaves a soft and subtle layer of bubbles slowly absorbing into your skin. It feels, quite simply, divine. It’s main ingredients are Sweet Almond Oil and Shea Butter and it’s lightly fragranced with uplifting Rose, Patchouli and Mandarin essential oils. Deeeeeliscious.

SONY DSC

Smooth and Firm Body Butter

The next ritual in my new morning routine is to smother my arms, legs and bum with the Smooth and Firm Body Butter. I am not usually a fan of ‘butters’ I find them exhausting to apply and are usually a bit too waxy. But this is more like a seriously rich cream and a little goes a long way. It leaves your skin with a soft dewy glow and feeling moisturised for hours. It is the pumpkin seed extracts within the ingredients that make this product relevant to pregnancy as they have proven qualities that enhance elasticity in the skin.

SONY DSC

Nourishing Body Oil

And finally I apply the luxury Nourishing Body Oil to my boobs and bump – the seriously ‘at risk’ areas. Rich in Vitamin E it has been designed to smooth and intensely moisturise the skin to reduce and prevent the appearance of stretch marks. It is quite a light oil which makes it really easy to apply and again, a little goes a long way. I have always favoured oils over creams because I think that the effects last much longer and it just makes more sense to me that an oil can penetrate the skin deeper; so as somewhat of an oil connoisseur I can seriously recommend this one :).

SONY DSC

Here is how you can get your hands on this luxury collection…

If you were to buy these exact products separately it would cost £100, but by buying it as a collection in time for Mother’s Day, you can save yourself £22 and take advantage of free delivery! But even better than that – ESPA Skincare are giving you the chance to WIN it! Simply click on the screen grab below to enter!
